Biological Hot Spots in India

 

Biodiversity hot spots are areas where there is high ethnic richness and high endemism, i.e, where there is richness of different species and these species are limited to that area.

1. In Situ Conservation Method

  • Under this, efforts are made to maintain biodiversity- related areas in their natural form at their original places.
  • A total of 36 Biological Hot Spots have been identified in the world, out of which 4 areas are located in India.
  • Currently, India as 18 biosphere reserves, 105 national parks and 553 wildlife sanctuaries and protected area which are examples of healthy in situ bio - conservation
  • 2. Ex Situ Conservation Method

  • Under this, threatened plants and animals are carefully protected at a special place apart from their natural habitat.
